The Birth of BucksTrybe
Imagine moving to a new country full of dreams and aspirations, only to find that your financial history doesn’t travel with you. This was the reality for our co-founder, Tope Akande, when he moved to the UK. Despite having a strong financial background, he faced significant barriers to accessing credit simply because his financial history from home wasn’t recognized. This experience highlighted a massive gap in the financial system – a gap that BucksTrybe is determined to bridge.
The Problem We Faced
Like many immigrants, young adults, and people with thin credit files, Tope encountered the frustrating reality of being “credit invisible.” Traditional credit scoring systems failed to acknowledge the informal financial activities that so many rely on – activities like rotational savings schemes, peer-to-peer lending, and contributions to family and community funds. These are common practices in many cultures but often go unrecognized by formal financial institutions.
Building a Bridge to Financial Inclusion
BucksTrybe transforms informal financial transactions into formal credit profiles. By leveraging open banking technology, we validate transactions like board money payments, rotational savings, rent, and peer-to-peer lending. These validated transactions are then converted into a credit score that can be reported to credit reference agencies and lenders. We were recognized by the FCA at the financial inclusion techsprint 2024 for the Eureka solution category.
Making an Impact
Since our inception, we’ve helped hundreds of individuals start their journey towards financial visibility and creditworthiness. Each success story fuels our passion and commitment to our mission. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to access financial services, regardless of their background or credit history.
